David and I were blessed with our first child.  He came almost 3 weeks early, and his birth was a quick, but R-O-U-G-H!  At 7:04am and weighing 7lbs 4oz, Dylan Hunter was born, and a family was formed!  He was and still is the most low key and happy child.  As he has grown, he continues to impress us with his maturity and kindness.  He is also such an athlete!  He can pick up any sport you throw at him.  He is a great friend, compassionate and funny!  Such a well rounded boy, and we couldn't be prouder.

Let's take a stroll down "Dylan" memory lane...

Happy Birthday big guy!

Dylan, I can't wait to see you grow up into a young man who loves God, others, and makes an impact in people with just your personality; just as you do now.  I pray for you to seek Him when you are scared, thank Him for the good and the bad, to trust in Him, and to be like Him.

Psalm 20:4  May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.

Happy Fall Yall!

It's finally showing moments on chilly weather in Texas!  Us East coasters welcome it, but it does catch us by surprise how much it warms up at the end of the day.  You better wear layers, and maybe keep a blanket or jacket in the car.  Trust me!

In the last week, we had Dylan's 8th Birthday party, Halloween, and Dylan's Sinus surgery. BUSY!

Dylan had a fun costume party at a park near our house, and it couldn't have been a nicer day! A lot of great friends came to celebrate our guy, and his friends had fun playing games and such.

Halloween was next, and boy did everyone have fun!  Our friends a street over have a hayride every year where they ride around our neighborhood throwing out candy, "Mardi Gras" style.

The boys did that while I tried to get Sydney comfortable with going up to doors.  When all the kids came back from the hayride, they all took off in a huge pack.  It took Sydney a few doors to be ok with it, but after that, she was the first one to most doors!  Sydney was not shy at all, and walked right up to every doorstep.  She loved being out and getting candy at the same time.  What a concept!

At the end of the night, going over their loot!

Monday the 1st, Dylan had sinus surgery. His surgery was at 7am, so we had to be there at 5:30am. NOT COOL!  Other than being exhausted, he really wasn't nervous.

I am so thankful for technology that comes in my phone.  He played games on it while they prepped everything, and asked me about a million questions, ok maybe 1 thousand.  He told me he wasn't going to fall asleep during the surgery, and I assured him that he would absolutely be sleeping.  As you may know, most 7 year olds, know everything.  Of course Mommy wasn't right, he was.  We made a bet.  If he didn't fall asleep, I would give him $100 for his birthday, and if he did fall asleep, we could have cake later.  The anesthesiologist came in and added another $100 to the pot, and jokingly said she would also throw in her medical license if he wasn't sleeping during surgery :)

Needless to say, he lost the bet!

Surgery went well, although he may need another surgery next year sometime.  It was worse then they thought "in there".  This was more of a minor surgery when you think of recovery.  The one next year would include removing bone, and fixing a deviated septum.  We will pray his bones grow and stretch :)

He is resting comfortably, and is frankly bored out his mind.  "Watching TV is boring" Dylan November 2011.

Can an iPad Really Help Sydney Communicate?

An old friend posted this link about a segment featured on 60 Minutes about Apps for people with Autism.  It was so inspiring to see how much it provided a voice for the people (primarilly small children) in the video.

While we are very blessed that Sydney shows no evidence of Autism to those who have evaluated her, she is completely non-verbal at school.  Her selective mutism is just becoming so clear to us, and the need to help her has become so intense.

Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is a form of augmentative and alternative communication. It is typically used as an aid in communication for children with autism and other special needs.  http://www.pecsusa.com/pecs.php This a possible way for her to communicate, but as of now, she can't point to pictures or things in class.  With the instant gratification of one of these apps, it may really engage her enough to get her to communicate through the app.

Needless to say, Mommy will be doing A LOT of research about all these apps and the iPad.  That this technology could help her find her voice with other kids in her class or teachers, might give her the confidence to communicate!  E-X-C-I-T-I-N-G!!

Happenings in the Roseberry House

Hmm, well, we've been busy.  The boys have been busy with soccer and baseball, Sydney with school and gymnastics, and Kennedy busy with Mommy.  You know, to a doctor's appointment or four, to the grocery store, taking and picking up siblings.  She's just as busy as Mommy!

Dylan has had two great soccer games!  He is just such fun to watch, and is really pretty awesome.  He is a bit shy about taking the ball from other players, but we're working on that.

Peyton has been the MVP the last 2 games, and we couldn't be prouder!  He really loves baseball, and has so much joy when he's playing!  For being the MVP, he gets a game ball, and he thinks he's pretty cool...we do too.

Sydney has been busy with school.  She has been in school for 6 weeks, and she loves going everyday!  She loves having lunch at school, loves recess, loves motor lab, her friends, and of course her teachers.  We hear little achievements every now and then, and they are golden to us.  She has also started gymnastics again with Ms. Nora, and she couldn't be happier!

Kennedy is now almost 22 months, and boy is she ever cute!  She has been talking for a long time, but is really putting phrases together that we just can't believe.  One of the cutest things she says now is "Kennedy".  Plain, simple and clear, but just about the cutest things you'll ever hear.

David and I are approaching 9 years of marriage, and can hardly believe it.  Thinking back to so many great memories that we have been in each others lives for.  Praising God for "Us"!

Our Gymnast Dylan!

Dylan has always been a very athletic child.  Picked up any sport he tried with such ease.  Last year when we moved to Texas, we signed Sydney up for gymnastics at the Little Gym, and figured the boys might like it too.  Dylan loved it!  He wanted to perfect every skill, and was eager to learn new tricks.  So he did half a semester in the fall, another in the spring, and we took the summer off from everything.

Last month, he asked when he was going to start gymnastics again.  With soccer and scouts, I didn't know when we would fit it in.  I found a gym that he liked, but after a few weeks, he expressed he wanted to compete.  The gym we were at didn't have a boys team, so we quickly found a new one.  He went it to try it out, and he loves it!  He did so great, that the mens head coach was watching him, and said they were very interested in him.  They said that he was a dream gymnast.  The maturity, the focus, the strength, the skill, and all at such a young age.  They want to put him in Pre-team, to prepare him for competition in the future.  I was beyond proud!  Once soccer is done in November, we will start more hours in the gym.

Exciting times for our almost 8 year old Dylan!

What's That Whistling Sound?

ASTHMA!  I've had an episode since last week that took me out of "Mom commission".  It's so hard to explain to people just how scary it can be to have asthma.  Just how difficult it can be to breathe.  Like using a straw, and not the big ones you use to drink a soft drink, try one of those tiny coffee stirrer straws.  Now imagine that for the last 5 days.  What's worse, is your child having it.  Knowing how it feels and how scared I can get, and how they must feel in that moment, breaks my heart.  I certainly understand the sense of urgency, and how to recognize it, so I guess that's good

Steroids are my best friend when i'm having an episode!  I got a steroid shot on Friday at about 11:30am, and at around 9pm, it felt like my lungs just opened up.  What a relief!  Unfortunately I have a pretty bad sinus infection with this episode, which means A LOT of congestion in my chest.  1 step forward, 2 steps back.  By the morning I was wheezing pretty bad again.  So scary and frustrating.  Do a nebulizer, and that will carry me for an hour or two, then we start all over again.

David took off 2 days last week, and i'm so glad he did!  Today however, "all systems go".  I'm on my own, and feeling OK about it.  Don't think i'll be taking the stairs too much, and carrying Kennedy will have to be minimal until Daddy gets home.  I see a new Asthma/Allergist on Wednesday, and we'll see what they say since this is my 3rd episode in the last year that have been serious.

Next time someone tells you they have asthma, or that their kids do, please be a little compassionate.
